What occupational therapy assistants do
Occupational therapy assistants are required during rehabilitation services provided for patients with various impairments, which can be physical, developmental, emotional or mental. They work to help people with impairments to improve life and achieve the aim that was specified in a treatment scheme developed by occupational therapists. Occupational therapy assistant monitors the person in charge in accordance with the task set in the treatment plan. The range of activities is diverse and varies greatly. Sometimes occupational therapy assistant teaches a patient to move and sit in a wheelchair. Sometimes the emotional encouragement is necessary. When treatment is not successful and the goal is not achieved then the scheme of treatment should be changed by occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant starts working with a person according to a new program.
